AQUA D-TOX
Aqua D-Tox is a revolutionary foot spa treatment to re-balance & re-energise your bio-energy.
We naturally need to detoxify every day, eliminating toxins and waste via our kidneys, liver, colon, lymph glands, lungs and skin. However modern lifestyle takes its toll on your body more so than you realise.
Toxins can be found in our everyday environment, tobacco, alcohol, food additives, drugs, pesticides, heavy metals and industrial pollutants. We need our body to function optimally and rid our systems of these toxins as they are harmful waste products which attack our immune system and can cause a wide variety of side effects, including lethargy and tiredness, headaches and migraines, colds and flu, bad skin, breath and body odour problems, sinus problems, the list goes on. Even a lack of exercise promotes toxic build up as our cells are insufficiently oxidized, and stagnation of our natural detoxification process occurs.
When your body's cells are functioning correctly, they allow vital nutrients to be absorbed into your body, which in turn results in the elimination of unwanted toxins.
However, your cells bio-energy can be unbalanced by:- Poor diet, food additives, processed food etc, stress and worry, illness and disease, a lack of fresh fruit and vegetables, drugs, smoking, lack of exercise and alcohol.
The Aqua D-Tox spa starts the process of rebalancing your body's bio-energy, to help remove unwanted toxins and to ensure optimum efficiency of the cells function. The result will be renewed energy levels both physical and mental, with a general feeling of well-being.
ALLERGY (VEGA/VOLL) TESTING
Screens for allergies, toxins, deficiencies and health disorders. Measures skin conductance over a point on the hand/foot. Diet, supplements and medications can then be given.
AROMATHERAPY
Aromatherapy, meaning "treatment using scents", is the practice of using essential oils, for psychological and physical well being.
Essential oils, which are the pure "essence" of a plant, have been found to provide both psychological and physical benefits.
Essential oils (diluted in a carrier oil) applied to the skin are absorbed into the bloodstream and are then thought to influence the nervous system, mental state and emotions, and possibly even organ function. When combined with massage, the treatment can have a powerful calming or energising effect, depending on the oil chosen and the strokes of the masseur.
Aromatherapy, as it is practised today, began with the Egyptians, who used the method of infusion to extract the oils from aromatic plants, which were used for medicinal and cosmetic purposes, as well as embalming.
The word "Aromatherapy" was first used in th 1920s by French chemist René Maurice Gattefossé, who devoted his life to researching the healing properties of essential oils after a lucky accident in his perfume laboratory. In the accident, he lit his arm on fire and thrust it into the nearest cold liquid, which happened to be a vat of lavender oil. Immediately he noticed surprising pain relief and, unlike previous burns, this burn healed remarkably quickly - with minimal discomfort and no scarring.
Aromatherapy is used for the relief of pain, care for the skin, to alleviate tension and fatigue and invigorate the entire body. Essential oils can affect the mood, alleviate fatigue, reduce anxiety and promote relaxation.
Aromatherapy can also help to
• boost your immune system
• help with period (menstrual) problems
• improve circulation
• relieve headaches and digestion problems.
It is widely used at home, clinics and hospitals for a variety of applications such as
• pain relief for women in labour pain
• rehabilitation of cardiac patients.
Studies have suggested that Aromatherapy may be helpful for conditions such as
• bronchitis
• alopecia
• agitation associated with dementia.
NOTE:
Since essential oils are so powerful and concentrated, they should never be applied to the skin in their undiluted form.
BONE DENSITY SCAN
WHAT IS OSTEOPOROSIS?
Osteoporosis means weakened or porous bone. There is loss of bone mass and disruption of the internal structure of the bone. The bone becomes fragile and there is an increased risk of fracture with resultant pain and disability. This can happen even with a minor injury or sometimes without any apparent
cause osteoporosis affects men as well as women.
RISK FACTORS
• Increased risk for females
• Greater risk with increasing age
• Menopause before age of 45
• Family history of osteoporosis
• Inadequate calcium and vitamin D intake
• Smoking
• Excessive alcohol
• Excessive fizzy drinks
• Digestive disorders
BOWEN TECHNIQUE
Gentle manipulation of the connective tissue, which allows the body to heal itself naturally. Particularly good for joint problems, but helpful for most conditions.
CHIROPODY
Chiropody is a field of healthcare devoted to the study and treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle, and sometimes knee, leg and hip (collectively known as the lower extremity).
The professional care of feet was in existence in ancient Egypt as far back as around 2400 BC. However, until the turn of the 20th century, chiropodists were separate from organised medicine. Chiropody, as practised today, was popularised by Dr William Scholl, in the early 1900s, who made it his life-long mission to improve the health, comfort and well being of people through their feet.
More than 80% of people develop foot problems at some time during their life. These range from the relatively minor to the potentially crippling, but all involve patient discomfort. Some problems are inherited, and some develop from illnesses in middle age, or from the pressure of ill-fitting shoes.
A Chiropodist is dedicated to the prevention and correction of these disorders in addition to alleviating the discomforts they cause.
A normal Chiropody treatment includes:
• Nails cut and filed
• Corns removed
• Hard skin removed
• Foot massage with specially selected creams
• Advice about ongoing foot care
Basic hygiene and nail cutting may be all that's needed to keep your feet in good shape - but when normal feet turn into problem feet, it's best to seek professional help.
CHINESE ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture is one of the oldest, most commonly used medical procedures in the world. Originating in China more than 2000 years ago, acupuncture began to become better known in the United States in 1971, when the New York Times reporter James Reston wrote about how doctors in China used needles to ease
his pain after surgery.
The term "acupuncture" is derived from Latin meaning, "puncture with needles". It describes a family of techniques involving stimulation of anatomical points on the body by a variety of techniques. The acupuncture technique involves penetrating the skin with thin solid, surgical steel needles that are manipulated by hand or by electrical stimulation.
In addition to the use of needles, many Acupuncturists use a herb known as Moxibustion. For example, one well-known technique is to insert the needle at the desired acupuncture point, attach moxa (dried mugwort) to the external end of an acupuncture (depending on the amount adhered to the needle) conducting heat through the needle to the surrounding tissue in the patient's body.
In the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) system of medicine, the body is seen as a delicate balance of two opposing and inseparable forces: Yin and Yang. It is believed health is achieved by maintaining the body in a "balanced state" and the disease (dis-ease) is due to an internal imbalance of yin and yang. This imbalance leads to a blockage in the flow of vital energy called "Q1" along the pathways known as meridians. There are 12 main meridians and 8 secondary meridians, with more than 2000 acupuncture points on the human body that connect with them.
Chinese Acupuncture treats the body as a whole. It can be used to treat almost
any condition, whether mental or physical. This therapy is based on the
treatment of "patterns of disharmony" rather than biomedical diagnoses.
CHIROPRACTIC
Corrects the structure of the body (primarily the spine), which can alleviate symptoms that interfere with its function. Can treat back pain, tension headaches, migraine, arthritic pain, sports injuries and a wide variety of ailments.
COUNSELLING
Counselling is a “talking therapy” which allows individuals to deal with specific life issues, for example, to explore a difficulty the client is having, distress the may be experiencing or perhaps their dissatisfaction with life, or loss of a sense of direction and purpose. It is a way of enabling choice or change or of reducing confusion.
Counselling theories were being developed during the beginning of the 20th century, however it is thought that the roots of this subject originated a long time before this. The most renowned work is that of Sigmund Freud who’s research into the mind began in Vienna in 1881. The 1940’s and 1950’s marked an important expansion in the field of counselling. The US psychologist Carl Rogers established the ‘person centred’ approach, which is at the heart of most current practice.
• Counselling can be useful for dealing with:
• A relationship breakdown, bereavement or redundancy
• Feeling of sadness, depression or and eating disorder
• Coming to terms with an ongoing physical problem, illness or disability
• Counselling can also be a means of coping with physical symptoms or complaints, that have psychological cause, that doctors cannot alleviate.
CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY
Identifies body tissues that have contracted, following shock or injury, in order to restore correct function. Can be used for almost any condition, or simply for well-being.
EASTERN HEAD AND SHOULDER MASSAGE
Treatment covers the upper back, neck, shoulders, head and face, to alleviate tension, headaches, eyestrain, muscular aches and pains.
ETIOTHERAPY
What is Etiotherapy?
Etiotherapy is a innovative alternative therapy. It is based upon reading the dynamics of the pulse and identifying the relationship between the individual's physical , biological and mental factors. It has long been established in the psychotherapy paradigm that our past negative experiences can effect our current emotional and physical wellbeing.
How does it work?
Etiotherapy creates a raised sense of consciousness and wellbeing, reconnecting you with your true self, generating a sense of purpose and clarity. The treatment opens up the body to release and process experiences from the past in a calm and relaxed atmosphere. Each individual's body will naturally
uncover what needs healing.
How can it help?
Traumatic or negative experiences are uncovered and released by Etiotherapy resulting in positive changes to the emotional, mental and physical health. It provides a relief from:
Homeopathy is an alternative method of treatment, based on nature’s Law of Cure, ‘Like Cures Like’.
This law was discovered by a German scientist Dr. Samuel Hahnemann in 1796 and has been verified experimentally and clinically for over 200 years. He was responsible for developing the system of Homeopathy as it is practised today.
Homeopathy is a revolutionary, natural medical science – a gentle yet effective system for the treatment of illness that is based both on the recognition of patterns within the symptoms of the illness and a wider consideration of how the individual is as a person.
The Homeopathy approach integrates current illness, medical history, personality type, previous experiences, emotional state, the influence of their environment and other social factors to identify a patient’s general ‘constitution’. Homeopathy treats the patient as a whole and not just the disease. Therefore, two patients with identical ‘conventional’ diagnoses may receive very different Homeopathy medicines.
Homeopathy treats disease using very low dose preparations. The remedies are prepared from natural substances to precise standards and work by stimulating the body’s own healing power. The remedies are prepared by a process of serial dilution and succession (vigorous shaking). The more times the process of dilution and succession is performed , the greater the potency of the remedy.
Homeopathy is not limited to certain diseases but is universally applicable to all kinds of diseases. There are a number of diseases which are labelled as ‘surgical’, where Homeopathy can work curatively – and can even avoid surgery.
HYPNOTHERAPY / E.F.T. / N.L.P.
Hypnotherapy - used to treat emotional problems, addictions or phobias by reaching the subconcious motivation underlying these symptoms and providing relief through self-understanding and insight.
E.F.T. (Emotional Freedom Technique) - Meridian-based energy psychology. A quick simple way of eliminating negative emotions e.g. those related to fears, phobias and traumatic experiences. Can be self-administered, usually after only one session.
N.L.P. (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) - Helps people to change their responses to events for the better. Enables them to explore how they aquire feelings, behaviours and results, and to use their inner resources to create better results.
LIFE COACHING
Life Coaching is a powerful process that supports people in making significant changes in their lives, helping them to determine and achieve personal goals. It is a designed alliance between coach and client where the coaching relationship continually gives all the power back to the client.
Sometimes we limit ourselves and cap our potential. Many talented people develop the belief that they are destined to remain in the current situation. Life coaching helps you to break negative belief patterns and set challenging aspirations.
A life coach helps you to clarify what you want in life
Coaching is not therapy (which goes into depth about various issues, usually dealing with the past) nor is it consulting (which generally resulting in giving the clients answers). It is more action-based and focuses primarily on the present and the future. It enables you to determine your own ‘answers’ through work done in the coaching partnership.
The benefits of life coaching include:
• Developing a greater understanding of your own dreams and aspirations
• Exploring the changes you want to make
• Discovering who you are and what you really want
• Looking at difficult situations from more useful perspectives
• Becoming motivated and inspired
• Rediscovering your sense of purpose and learning to believe in yourself
• Prioritising and achieving life goals
• De-cluttering and refocusing your life
A Life Coach helps deal with:
• Relationships and intimacy
• Stress management and balance
• Career planning, development motivation and time management
• Entrepreneurial and small business development
• Creativity for artists, writers, musicians and performers
• Finances and budgeting
• Family and parenting
MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE
Stimulate the lymphatic drainage system, in order to detoxify the body, by unblocking its natural drainage system. Can be used for digestive problems, migraine, sinus problems, cellulite, cramps and lymphoedema (following mastectomy).
CANNOT be used when there has been a history of TB, malignant disease, acute inflammation, thrombosis or for infectious skin conditions.
MEDICAL ACUPUNCTURE
Medical Acupuncture is a simplified version of Traditional Chinese acupuncture practiced by western medical practitioners. It is the technique of inserting and manipulating very fine needles into acupuncture points on the body. The primary use is that of pain relief. Medical Acupuncture is based purely on
anatomy, physiology and science.
The term "acupuncture is itself a western one derived from Latin and meaning "puncture with needles".
Traditional Chinese Medicine had an influence on Europe due to exchange via the Silk Road trade routes. Goods and ideas both travelled between cultures in this way.
Acupuncture continued to attract interest from Western allopathic physicians in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries through generally without much reference to its Oriental roots. This interest has continued down to the present, receiving considerable interest after Presidents Nixon's visit to China in 1972, when surgeons witnessed surgical operations being carried out using acupuncture analgesia instead of anaesthetics.
Medical Acupuncture can be particularly successful for the following:
• Acute and chronic pain control
• Arthritis, Bursitis, Tendonitis, Carpal tunnel syndrome
• Sciatica
• Headache, Vertigo (Meniere's)
• Cervical and lumber spine syndromes
• Sprains and contusions
• In fractures, assisting in pain control, oedema, and enhancing healing process
• Acupuncture anaesthesia for high risk patients, or patients with adverse response to anaesthetics.
MEDICAL HERBALISM
Medical Herbalism is today a sophisticated system of natural medicine using plant extracts and herbs to help treat physical and mental disorders.
Herbal medicine remains the oldest and most used form of medicine on the planet today. The ancient Egyptians used herbs for medicinal purposes as far back as around 1500BC. Every culture on the planet has their own herbal medicine system.
Herbal medicine has never been more popular than it is today. More and more people are turning to herbal medicine as a kinder alternative to mainstream medicine, with its over reliance on pharmaceutical products.
Many common drugs are, in fact, made from herbal extracts. The natural chemical properties of certain herbs have been shown to contain of themselves, medical value. However, unlike conventional medicine, herbalists use the ‘whole’ herb or plant rather than isolating and breaking down chemical compounds and then synthesising it. This is because the plant, being part of nature, is said to represent perfect balance; healing requires the natural combination of elements in the plant or herb, not just a single chemical with it.
A herbalist’s approach to healthcare is different too. The treat the whole person – the cause of illness and not just the symptoms. Two people could visit the same herbalist, with apparently the same conditions, but leave with totally different prescriptions.
A number of herbs may be combined in a prescription for optimum effect. Although some herbs are appropriate for scientific ailments, herbs are most often used to support the body’s ability to heal it self.
A herbalist will often suggest dietary changes, exercises and other therapies to assist the healing process.
Herbal medicine is successfully used to treat millions of people throughout the world for a large range of problems, for example:
Stress: Its causes (work, illness, family, or just life in general) and its effects on our live (sleep problems, digestive complaints, headaches, etc.) Female Hormonal Problems: Female cycle and hormonal problems such as period pain, PMS and menopause Digestive Disorders: Irritable Bowel Syndrome, heartburn, ulcers, indigestion, bloating, wind, etc… Allergies: Hayfever, food intolerances, cats, dust and more exotic allergies (which are becoming increasingly common) Arthritis, Gout, Joint and Back Problems: Provides not only pain management, but also herbs to slow the progression of the disease Low Energy: Whether due to poor diet or digestion, reduced hormonal activity, recent illness, etc… Skin Conditions and Hair loss: Eczema, psoriasis, acne etc…. Pain Management: Long term use of painkillers can often be reduced by using herbal alternatives Infections: by either supporting the body’s natural healing abilities or attacking the infection directly
Herbal medicine is suitable for all stages of life, from birth to old age – without the side effects of many conventional medicines.
NUTRITION
A person's nutritional needs and lifestyle are assessed, in order to identify the root causes of their health problems and treat them.
OSTEOPATHY/CRANIAL OSTEOPATHY
The cranium relates to the body as a whole
Cranial osteopathy is a refined and subtle type of osteopathic treatment that encourages the release of stresses and tensions throughout the body, including the head. It works to restore the structure and function of the body to a state of balance and harmony, so helping the whole person.
Cranial osteopaths are trained to feel a very subtle, rhythmical shape change that is present in all body tissues. This is called Involuntary Motion or the Cranial Rhythm.
Tension in the body disrupts the Cranial Rhythm. Practitioners compare what your rhythm is doing to what they consider ideal. This shows them what stresses and strains your body is under at present, and what tensions it may be carrying as a result of its past history. It also gives them an insight into the overall condition of your body - for example if it is healthy, or stressed and tired.
When we experience physical or emotional stresses our body tissues tend to tighten up. The body may have been able to adapt to these effects at the time, but a lasting strain often remains. Any tensions that remain held in the body can restrict its free movement. Gradually the body may find it more and more difficult to cope with accumulated stresses and, as a result, symptoms may develop.
Cranial Osteopathy is a gentle, yet extremely effective, approach and may be used in a wide range of conditions, for people of all ages - from birth to old age:
PREGNANCY & CHILDBIRTH
Discomforts of pregnancy (nausea, breathing difficulties, varicose veins/haemorrhoids), preparation for labour and position of baby, recovery after birth;
NEUROLOGICAL SYNDROMES
Head trauma, seizures, post concussion syndrome, Downs Syndrome, anxiety and emotional disorders.
REFLEXOLOGY
Reflexology helps to restore and maintain balance within the whole body by applying pressure to parts of the feet (or hands) known as reflex points.
It was developed by Eunice D. Ingham (a physical therapist), in the early 1930s, from advances of Zone Therapy (originally created by William H. Fitzgerald and Dr Edwin Bowers), as a result of her foot reflex theory, which showed reflexes on the feet were a mirror image of the organs in the body.
Reflexology works on the principle of the whole body being connected, from head to toe, represented by ten longitudinal zones running front to back, head to toe throughout the body. These are easily accessed via the hands or feet, which are mini maps of the body's anatomy. All body systems can be accessed by applying pressure or massaging the corresponding area of the foot or hand (there are 7,200 nerve endings in each hand and foot).
The aim is to stimulate the body's own healing process and bring the body back into balance. It encourages the body to rebuild its energy, stimulate circulation and help the nervous system to work more efficiently.
The deeply relaxing nature of Reflexology allows the body to release tension and stress that can build with everyday life. It is proven that stress can have a negative impact on our body’s ability to function at optimal levels. Reducing this stress makes the body more balanced, and this allows for healing on mental, spiritual and physical levels.
Conditions which can benefit from Reflexology are:
• Stress, anxiety, depression
• High blood pressure
• Digestive complaints
• Headaches, migraines, tooth pain
• Asthma
• Insomnia
• Arthritis, muscle tension, stiff joints
• Eczema, psoriasis
• Pain relief, comfort and palliation in cancer patients
• PMS, menopause, prostate enlargement
• Pregnancy after the third month, stimulation of labour and reduction in pain, successful nursing of babies after birth
Clients should avoid Reflexology if they suffer from:
• Recent or healing fractures
• Unhealed wounds
• Active gout
REIKI
Activates self-healing and releases energy blocks, using the therapist as a channel for energy, helping to bring balance and harmony back to the body.
REMEDIAL MASSAGE
Remedial massage is the massage and manipulation of the soft tissue of the body such as muscles, ligaments and tendons. Various massage movements are used to promote circulation, increase blood supply and breakdown fibrous areas which may have formed in muscle, thereby alleviating pain and discomfort and promoting the body’s ability to heal.
Massage is without doubt the oldest form of medicine known to man, It is an instinctive medicine. Long before records began; it was thought that the Romans and the Greeks practised forms of massage. Three thousand years before the birth of Christ, the Chinese were employing massage therapies.
The key benefits of Remedial Massage include:
Stimulation to the blood supply allowing toxins in the muscles to be removed
Calming of the peripheral nervous system to ease pain and discomfort
Toning and relaxing of muscles to improve joint mobility
An improvement to the health of the cells, the repairing of tissues, the easing of stiffness and tension can also be experienced through therapeutic relaxation.
Muscular and skeletal dysfunctions often addressed with Remedial Massage include:
Rolfing is a system of body restructuring and movement education, developed over 50 years ago by Dr Ida P.Rolf.
Dr. Rolf claimed she found a correlation between muscular tension and pent up emotions. She believed that emotional as well as physical health depends upon being properly aligned.
Rolfing works on the web-like complex of connective tissue (facial) and releases the body’s segments (legs, torso, arms etc) from the life-long patterns of tension and bracing, permitting gravity to re-align them. By doing so, it balances the whole body.
When the body is balanced, it expends less of its vital energies against gravity
Gravity is among the powerful of all the forces affecting the human body. Body misalignment in gravity results from Rolfing, is often experienced as a higher level of alertness and vitality. Movement becomes easier and overall personal functioning tends to improve.
It can resolve pain and discomfort from different causes, including those related to the lingering effects of trauma, back pain, repetitive motion injuring and ageing.
Rolfing is also an excellent foundation for the complement to yoga, Pilates and other personal wellness practices.
SHIATSU
Pressure is applied to points that correspond to the energy lines in the body, to stimulate the blood and lymphatic system. Can improve posture, re-balance energy and reduce stress.
